7) Ice Missiles
First Appearance: Metroid Fusion (2002)
Sometimes a beam weapon just doesn't cut it and you need to bring out the big guns. Missiles in general are typically Samus' best bet when it comes to dispatching some of the tougher baddies she encounters. There have been numerous types (Super, Ice, Seeker, Diffusion and Hyper), but which one to choose? In the end, I've got to give it to the Ice variant.
In Super Metroid the enemy is frozen no matter what, but this forces you to shoot a lot of enemies more than once (making it somewhat impractical for speedruns). Yes its nitpicking, but that's my reasoning.
On the other hand, the freezing mechanic only comes into effect when I choose for it to with the Ice Missiles. Again, I love the freezing effect on an enemy as a whole, and it is absolutely crucial to defeating Metroids in most of the 2D games (with the exception of Metroid II). Plus the boss you have to defeat to get them in Prime 3 is awesome, but we'll get to that later.
Missiles are such a staple of the franchise that I felt I had to include one, so I decided to go with the "coolest" ones!
Ok... I'm done.
7) Wave Beam
Yes the wave beam comes in at number 7. It lets you shoot through walls. Plus it looks really cool. What's not to like? I love the ability to shoot enemies and things through parts of the environment. The wave beam is one of the coolest in the series, and that's why it's number 7.
