That's right. The biggest, baddest and one of the most popular Pokemon to ever exist, Charizard! My partner from day 1 slides into #3!
Charizard hasn't been limited to just Red version for me. He's served as a valuable team in Fire Red and most recently X version, where he received not one, but two Mega Evolutions. Charizard X is cool, but I definitely prefer his Y counterpart.
For the longest time it was cool to be on the "I hate Charizard" bandwagon, largely in part due to his 4x weakness to Rock type. This does present a big problem for Charizard in competitive play, as your opponent can set up Stealth Rock (entry hazard) which will knock Charizard's health down to half just by entering the battlefield. This was somewhat rectified in Gen VI, as Charizard X was given the secondary type of Dragon (making Rock only 2x) and Y has a whole new array of things to play with.
Charizard Y utilizes the Drought ability, which intensifies the sunlight in battle. This not only gives his Flamethrower a boost in power, but makes Solar Beam (a powerful grass type move for those pesky Water and Rock Pokemon) a one turn move instead of two. To round it out I give him Dragon Pulse and Focus Blast.
Chance are good that even if you're not a fan of Pokemon you've at least heard of Charizard, and there's a good reason you have. He's been a major fixture since the very beginning, and I don't anticipate anybody taking his place anytime soon!
