Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 (Xbox, 2003/2004)
Bioware is a brilliant game developer, with amazing series like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. But before all that came KOTOR, a game that thrust you into the role of a common soldier, whose journey would change history. Along the way you'll recruit 9 other party members who will help you determine the fate of the galaxy.
The first KOTOR is a great game, with possibly the biggest Star Wars plot twist after Vader being Luke's father. However, the sequel is where the series really shines.
Assuming you haven't stopped reading after that paragraph, my reasonings for loving the 2nd game are numerous. I liked the worlds a lot more (Korriban is terrifying, Dxun/Onderon is awesome, and even Dantooine's better the second go around. And for those of you who followed my Creepiest Places I've Been In A Video Game list know how I feel about Malachor V). The part where you split your team up to go to war with Onderon is one of my favorites.
The villains are amazingly crafted as well. Darth Sion is a zombie-like Sith that stalks you for the whole game and Darth Nihilus is a disembodied (maybe?) figure that literally feeds on the Force. But Kreia... That one name pretty much sums up why I love this game so much. But you'll just have to wait until later in the month to find out more about that...
Battlefront 2 - (Xbox)
Battlefront is one of my favorite Star Wars games ever made. It is an amazing shooter that drops you in to the beautiful Star Wars universe. I loved the ability to fight massive battles on the different planets. The different game modes and playable characters gave this game an edge over many other shooters. Being able to capture basis, fight star fights, and play as some of the most memorable characters from the Star Wars movies all are things that made this game amazing. Possibly the best of all though, was the Galactic Conquest mode. This mode was a massive scale galactic war where your objective was to take over the galaxy with the rebels, or Empire. I loved everything about this game, and that's why it is my number 2.
Tie Fighter (PC)
My favorite thing about Star Wars is the vehicles. Yes, the lightsaber battles are cool, but my favorite scenes are the space battles with the ships. So far every game I have picked let you control the vehicles. Tie Fighter made me feel like I was an imperial fighter pilot and gave me control of a wide range of Tie Fighters. Everything from basic tie fighter, tie bombers, tie interceptors and tie advanced (among other) were available to use depending on the needs of the mission. This is not only one of my favorite Star Wars Games, It is one of my favorite games ever. It was so fun having the freedom to fly around in this battle however I wanted. I was able to plan my own strategy. I was able to learn from my mistakes and try new things the next time around. I was able to advance in rank. I was able to unlock new vehicles. I felt like I was a part of the Star Wars Universe! Tie Fighter is a game I always think about going back and playing through. Unfortunately, I bought the game when it came out and it is on floppy disks. My current computers don’t have a floppy drive and downloadable versions of the game always required changing the resolution settings on the computer to play it. You can imagine my joy when I ran across this article about an updated version of both X-Wing and Tie Fighter being released with updated resolution to play on modern computers. I can’t wait to buy it and get back into destroying the rebel scum!
